Mystical oak tree of Saint Abdon, near Aigne, and La Caunette, Herault, Languedoc

Follow the small vineyard roads out of the village of Aigne to find this mystical place.

The oak has long been associated with old religions like druidism, and has been converted to suit newer beliefs. From this tree there are marvelous 360 degree views towards the Mediterranean, the cathar villages of Minerve, La Caunette, and across the Aude valley towards Mount Alaric.

Saint Abdon's cross is across the vineyard from the oak - and perhaps a dolmen was also once at this site.
Strong energy! No wonder that the oak tree and the cross are a place where pilgrimages go when there is a drought, asking for rain to fertilise the vines

St Abdon cross, near Aigne, Herault

This is the cross that was here when was here some years ago
For it was more simple than the present one
In this older photo the choice of rocks and the simple cross does represent pure spiritual energy
